What ya reading?
I’m a bit of a busybody sometimes. So I gotta know what you’re reading. Is it any good? Is it boring? And would you recommend it?

A bit behind myself but this week I finished ‘Outliers’ (good, better than Blink), An Unquiet Mind (good, esp if you have Bipolar Mood Disorder, or are close to someone who does) and ‘God is not Great’ (Hitchens is not as arrogant as Dawkins). Should finish Viral Loop tonight then still to finish ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ and ‘Confessions of an Economic Hitman’.

Sometimes a good old intelligent thriller is just the thing to ease the monotony. Have just finished “Dark Matter”by Greg Iles. Besides the usual thriller, good guys-bad guys fare, the novel poses interesting questions around religion and mortality. Much like the popular Dan Brown stuff.
if the brain can be unshackled from the flesh and body and placed in a computer….? What then? Are our experiences as homo sapiens dependent on the body. Or can life be sustained via the brain alone?
Recommend?
Most certainly!

@ Chi Chi: Yo, Chi Chi! I def want to know what you think about Carnegie’s book.
@Christopher: You’re a big reader, eh? How do you do it? I read Outliers and really liked it. I might give God is not Great a shot even though I’m a bit over my ‘fanatical atheist’ stage.
@Rodney: What an interesting question. Perhaps we can foil death by getting rid of our bodies? But would our quality of life be as good without being able to touch, kiss, scratch behind our ear, or play scrabble? That book reminds me of a Roald Dahl story — the one about the guy who lives on as a brain after his death. I do want to read more SciFi so perhaps I’ll have a looksie.

Joy… I know you’ve sort of lost your blogging mojo. no prob. But I know that you love reading and are probably wiling the time away by reading, reading, reading.
Just wanted to recommend a book I just finished….Just brilliant….
Palace Council – Stephen L Carter.
Stunning tour de force that spans decades, takes in the intricacies of history, the pain and joy of love, thrilling investigation, the convolution of race and much, mucm, much more. Not bubblegum but supremely intellectual, with phrases and sentences so memorable they are still stuck in my brain a few days later!

Hey Rodney
Some of my favourite books do just that: yes, they transport me to another world for an hour (or two, or five) or so but they also leave me with things to ponder.
Have you ever read Do androids dream of electric sheep? I’ve read it twice (that says something: I don’t do it often) and I recommend it for the same reasons that you recommended your book.
Thanks for your suggestion!
‘Tis a dry writing season for me, though
